Foam Roller

Rolling Towards Relief

Though I might not quite categorize a foam roller as a “yoga prop,” it’s definitely worth a mention as a tool for pain management & it can easily be incorporated into your daily mindful movement practice. Foam rolling is a simple yet effective self-massage technique that targets the fascia (a type of connective tissue) to increase blood flow, break up adhesions & re-align muscle fibers. Though every body undergoes tension in the fascia, bodies living with chronic pain tend to experience much more.

Fair warning: a foam roller is not a “comfort” prop. Working through fascia is typically quite painful, so dont forget to breathe!

This tool can vary in length, density, texture; & are either cylindrical or half (flat on one side). Each shape has its own set of benefits. Regular use can improve flexibility, release muscle knots & restore range of motion, making it a valuable tool for just about any joint – but I particularly love using mine to release back and rib tension. Lightweight & affordable, a foam roller is a convenient way to integrate pain fascial release and recovery into your daily routine.

Pro Tip: A little bit goes a long way – don’t overdo it!
